Brandon Steben
High School Counselor, A-L
bsteben@rsd6.org

My name is Brandon Steben, I am the school counselor for students with last names A-L for grades 9-12. I am very excited to begin my first year here at Wamogo! I have been very impressed with the programs, staff and overall community of the school thus far. Before coming to Wamogo I was a school counselor in Old Saybrook and at Valley Regional High School in Deep River (Region 4). Prior to becoming a school counselor, I worked at the Farmington Valley Diagnostic Center, an alternative school thru CREC and CT Junior Republic’s Child, Youth and Family Support Center in Torrington. Working with adolescents in these settings encouraged me to become a school counselor. I received a Masters in School Counseling from the University of Saint Joseph in 2016 and a Bachelors in Sociology from the UConn in 2011. Go Huskies and Blue Jays!

In my free time, you can find me spending time with my rescue dog, Benny! He loves to go for walks, hikes, playing at the dog park and swimming. Occasionally, when there is a break from school, he and I will foster rescue pups until they are adopted. Other than that, you can find me playing or watching sports (I’m a big Red Sox fan), listening to a variety of music or catching a concert, taking trips (bonus points if there’s a beach!) and exploring new places.

As a school counselor, I aspire to assist students in their academic achievement, personal social lives as well as career development. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you!

Stephanie McCormack
High School Counselor, 9-12, M-Z
smccormack@rsd6.org

Hi, my name is Stephanie McCormack. I am the school counselor for students with last names M-Z in grades 9-12 here at Wamogo. I myself am a Wamogo graduate, class of 2010. I was an Agriculture student here at Wamogo and was an active member of the Wamogo FFA, a program I love. When I left Wamogo, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Western Connecticut State University. I then went on to earn my Master of Science degree in School Counseling from Central Connecticut State University. I previously worked as a school counselor at the Metropolitan Learning Center in Bloomfield, which is a CREC magnet school, and as a Prevention Specialist at Washington Elementary School in Waterbury. I could not be happier to be back as a school counselor where I went to high school!

In my spare time, I love to read (former English major to the core) and greatly enjoy spending time with my dogs, Wes and George (both 6 years old). In the summer I live for spending days at the beach and love to travel, but I always find myself going back to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, one of my favorite places. You can always find me enjoying a concert throughout the year, but I religiously see Kenny Chesney live each year. He is my favorite! I love to cook and, most importantly, I love to eat. I also love football and am a die-hard Patriots fan (but not a fan of Brady, which is always shocking).

As a school counselor, I am here to help students in the areas of academic achievement, personal and social development, and college and career development. Please feel free to contact me by phone or email, or schedule an appointment to meet with me. I look forward to working with the students and families here at Wamogo!

Sandra Miguez-Fernandes
Middle School Counselor
smiguez-fernandes@rsd6.org

Hello! My name is Sandra Fernandes. I am the school counselor for grade 12 students M-Z, as well as the middle school students, here at Wamogo. I graduated from Teikyo Post University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. I continued my education at Central Connecticut State University, earning a Master of Science degree in School Counseling, and am a National Certified Counselor (K-12). I am a proud member of the American School Counselor Association as well as the Connecticut School Counselor Association. My previous work experience consists of working at Post University, Chase Collegiate School, Saint Paul Catholic High School, and now Wamogo.

On a personal note, I have two young children, a daughter and son. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been together for over 25 years! We also have a Minuet cat, Clover, and a Miniature Schnauzer, Bear. I enjoy biking, love water rides, and working out. I'm a pretty good baker but sadly cannot say the same for my cooking, although I do rock Thanksgiving dinner (go figure). Ironically, I graduated from W.F. Kaynor Technical High School (eons ago), where I learned how to create and construct (sew) garments and accessories. I probably should have taken the culinary track. One of the my all-time favorite movies is Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

As a school counselor, I help students with academic achievement, personal/social development, and career development, assisting today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow. Please feel free to contact me, and I look forward to working with your family!

Barbara Hart
Administrative Assistant

This year marks my 16th year at Wamogo Regional High School, and 23rd year working in a high school environment. I served seven years as the Principal and Special Education Assistant at Litchfield High School prior to joining the counseling staff here at Wamogo. An NCCC ECE graduate, I taught Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 students at Little Brick School in Litchfield for ten years before moving to LHS.

Working with students no matter what age, and attending to their needs is my calling in life. In addition, I am the mom of two adult children, and the Nana of seven wonderful grandchildren aged 2-13. They are my life. In my free time, I keep busy exercising and practicing yoga, visiting with friends and family, and taking day trips or vacations with my husband of 40 years. I enjoy art and paint in oils. My hope is to be able to eventually devote more time to my artwork.

Many years have quickly passed at Wamogo, and many new changed have occurred along the way. I've gone from copying piles of college applications during the holiday break, to the use of Naviance: click, click, and submit! Then there's the email and Twitter...you know what I mean!

Please stop by and visit our office any time, or call with any questions you have. Our staff welcomes you!
